OUR NAME

Out of the Basement started as just an idea over nachos.  Searching high and low for a location in which to practice, we decided to meet in a basement for the first few weeks.  From these lowly beginnings, we have risen Out of the Basement to bring you the funny!

OUR CAST

 

Kevin Scott

Kevin has always been an actor at heart. As a little kid he would recreate his own version of the Tonight Show for his family. He was always willing to help out with strange little projects. From posing as a mannequin in a retail store for a photo shoot to performing little skits for school, Kevin would do anything for the ladies. He trained at Madcap University to hone his skills. In addition to his contributions to Out of the Basement, Kevin is currently teaching improv to different middle school groups. 

 

Mark W. Smith

It all started in elementary school with "A Christmas Carol" where Mark found his love for the stage.  In junior high, In addition to a few bit parts, he got the chance to travel to local schools, dress up in a toothbrush costume and perform skits about caring for your teeth.  This trend continued.  He took orchestra in junior high, and that led to many years of playing the viola through high school, all-county orchestra, college, and a paid gig at the Arvada Center for Sweet Charity.  He has also performed onstage at Red Rocks Community College, St. Cajetan's at Metro State College, Lakewood's Heritage Center Amphitheater and some local theaters.  He is a recent graduate of Madcap University, and improv has become a way of life!  Check out Mark's website at http://www.markwsmithcomedy.com.


 

Mary Breight

 

Mary is thrilled to be a part of Out of the Basement Improv Troupe! The acting bug bit her when she was four years old and created her own imaginary TV show called “Amy and Tom” where she conveniently played the roles of Amy and Tom. Ever since she was young, Mary was most comfortable on stage or in front of the camera. Mary performed in over eighteen shows throughout elementary, middle and high school and is excited to be acting again during college! Some favorite performances include: the narrator in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat and Corrie Bratter in Barefoot in the Park. She now studies at Regis University as a music performance major with an emphasis on vocal studies.

Mary Haughie 

Mary is so excited to be a part of Out of the Basement! Recently transplanted from New York, Mary is focusing on performing as a musician and actor in Colorado. She holds degrees in both music performance and education and pays the rent as a teacher, director and accompanist.  From her start as The Big Mouth Frog in her Brownie Girl Scout troop’s production of The Big Mouth Frog to opera and musical theatre performances in New York and Italy, Mary enjoys being on stage in any capacity. Her most recent projects include directing and musical directing productions of The Phantom of the Opera and Fame.

Matt Davis

Matt is so excited to be joining the Out of the Basement cast!  He has made a habit of saying things throughout his life that made him look silly, and he decided, why not make a career of it.  He has a Bachelors in Theater Performance and has worked as an actor, director, choreographer, teacher, and Artistic Director in various places across the country.  During the day he is a teacher and has worked with several children’s theaters.  Most recently he directed Dracula: The Death of Nosferatu for Theater Hikes Colorado and was Timmy Chrachet in Have a Holly Jolly Murder for MO Productions here in Denver.




 

Nessa Young

Nessa discovered how much she enjoyed being on stage when she starred in Neil Simon’s “Fools” her sophomore year of high school. Nessa then appeared in a number of productions throughout high school and sang in the school’s choir. Since graduating a million years ago she has studied at the Denver Center Theater Academy and Madcap University. She has also been involved in regional theater directing, acting, supervising costumes and designing sets. Recently she played Studio Manager in Longmont Theatre Company's "Frost/Nixon."  Prior to joining Out of the Basement, she was a pre-kindergarten teacher, and she loved laughing with her students and co-teacher.  She is now a student at UNC double majoring in art education and theater.
