Out of the Basement Improv is dedicated to producing improvisational theater in the greater Denver area, and we specialize in unscripted, interactive, and family-friendly comedy. Since our founding in the summer of 2010, we have experienced solid growth in ticket sales, audience participation and feedback, and overall recognition in the metro Denver improv and live theater scene. We are experiencing dramatic growth, and we are now at the point where we would like to add a few members to our acting troupe in order to meet our audience's needs.

To help you decide whether this is something you would like to pursue, please consider the following:

We are committed to making Out of the Basement Improv one of the premier improv troupes in the metro Denver area. All of our current cast members are extremely committed to the success of our troupe, and we ask that any future cast members share the same level of excitement and dedication.
Auditions are open to actors who are at least 18 years old.
We currently practice on Mondays from 7:00-9:00 p.m., and we would expect that future cast members would make every effort to be at every practice. We understand that life brings unexpected conflicts that may prevent this from happening from time to time, but the expectation is that our cast members be at every practice when practical to do so.
We currently perform once or twice a month, although we anticipate adding more performances as we grow. Not every cast member will be expected to be at every show, but the expectation is that cast members will want to perform as often as they can.
Improv takes many different forms. We perform short form improv games, and our troupe culture is based on a team philosophy. We firmly believe that no one cast member is the "star"; instead, we perform based on the understanding that we will only be successful as a team. It is imperative that all future cast members share this team mentality as we grow.

The Audition Process
Our selection process is a lengthy one. We want to make sure that any future cast members fit well within our troupe model, and by the same token, we want future cast members to feel comfortable with us, as well. If you decide you would like to try out to become a member of our cast, here is the process you will follow:

Contact us at outofthebasementdenver@gmail.com to let us know that you are interested in trying out. Be sure to include a resume and headshot if you have one available. We will get back to you to set up an audition time.
The audition will take place at the Woodrow Wilson Academy. We'll give you directions once the date has been confirmed. At least three current cast members will be present at your audition. You will be asked to do a number of things, including two-line scenes, short improv games, and longer improvised monologues. Come prepared to interact with our current cast members, and remember to bring an acting resume and a head shot. The audition will take approximately 30 minutes.
Following your audition, one of three options will occur:

You will be selected to join our troupe on a trial basis. All new cast members will be selected on a probationary basis for 60 days. During this time, new cast members will practice with the cast but may not be asked to perform until the end of the 60 days.
You will not be asked to join us on a trial basis, yet, but we may recommend that you audition again after receiving further training.
You will not be asked to join us because your talents and goals may not match with our current needs.

You will be notified by email of the results of your audition. We will make every effort to respond to you as soon after your audition as is practical.
